Microsoft intellimouse optical black ver. 1.1a

Modern 5 button mice have both side buttons on the LEFT side. Cons: No cons really but this is an Older mouse. Even though my mouse was "new", it just had never been used before so it was over 10 years old. It gets around dpi, whereas today's modern mice get about and come in wireless. Overall Review: Sometimes you just gotta have the equipment you are used to even though its old. This item is currently out of stock and it may or may not be restocked.

Cons: The buttons on the left and right forward and back in web browser are overly sensitive. They can be disabled, but shouldn't have to be. The price is a bit steep for what it is.

Overall Review: I would change the design of the forward and back web browser buttons. Get rid of the bright red led lights -- they're a little annoying.

Not sure I'd ever recommend something so mediocre, but the product works. Pros: It's the right size for a human hand, which is surprisingly rare these days. Good, natural form factor. Just the right amount of tension in the wheel, such that it's not difficult at all to press, but I don't accidentally press it while scrolling.

Side buttons are huge, so they're easy to locate, but also placed well so that I don't press them accidentally. These sound like minor distinctions, but they're very important to me and how I use a mouse. Features should be easy to access when I want to and simultaneously unlikely for me to trigger accidentally. That can be a difficult balance to achieve, and this mouse does that well for me with all five buttons and the wheel.

Cons: It's terrible out-of-the-box for Windows Unresponsive in general, and the wheel was a nightmare. Inconsistent scrolling. Sometimes it would even scroll down when I scrolled up! I downloaded Microsoft's IntelliMouse software and it didn't help. I was ready to return it. I thought it might even have a defective sensor or something. Then an old support article saved the day. I uninstalled Microsoft's software, then re-installed it in Win 7 compatibility mode.

This made all the difference! Very pleased with it now. Even so, the wheel is perhaps not quite as sensitive as I would prefer. A single notch of scrolling isn't always enough to register an event, and it really should be. And there doesn't seem to be a way to increase its sensitivity in this regard.
